PERIODONTAL SPLINTING

PERIODONTAL SPLINTING

Eating food or chewing gum with unsecured teeth is unbearable. The feeling of your tooth tugging away from your exposed gum is enough to send chills down your spine. It is almost a nightmare; waiting for either the tooth to become loose enough for itto be deemed ready for extraction, or strong enough for it to no longer be a problem.

The main cause of loose teeth is because of the loss of gum tissue, injury, pressure caused by tooth misalignment, or orthodontic treatment. Luckily, a new procedure called "periodontal splinting" combines weak teeth, therefore creating a single unit that is stable and stronger than the single teeth alone. This procedure is usually performed on the patient's front teeth. The procedure is as straightforward as using composite material to attach, or splint, the loose tooth to the adjoining stable tooth. Tooth splinting is another common procedure that has been used so much because of its effectiveness.

No one should ever have to deal with the atrocity that is loose teeth.
