After wisdom tooth removal

Wisdom tooth removal is a surgical procedure that requires little post-operative care to reduce the chance of infection or other complications. Directly after surgery, a gauze pad will be positioned over the extraction site, which should not be taken off for a minimum of 45 minutes, and then disposed after that. Avoid from drinking from a straw or rinsing the mouth to ensure that you do not dislodge the blood clot that has formed. You should limit your activities that day, but you can resume your regular activities the upcoming day. Take the pain medicine as prescribed by your doctor to reduce the amount of irritation you feel after the anesthetic wears off. As with any oral surgery, avoid drinking through a straw as doing so will create suction and may disrupt the sutures.
